CAN WE THINK ABOUT SPRING YET? THANKS TO TIGHTS WE CAN!

The short answer is yes, and we better start before this cold snap saps our sartorial super powers! It feels like a long Winter but we have decided that the New In Collection at Rock My Vintage can totally be rocking it now - giving two fingers to the frost in the process.

THANKS TO TIGHTS - the best invention known to man and toe, these darling deniers are your early spring saviour. They can take a skimpy 1920s dress out when it's below freezing or keep your tea dress toasty during the dreary days.

TWINKLING TWENTIES IN TIGHTS

Pick a lower denier for nights out to keep things sexy like with this black and gold flapper dress. Heist are our favourite brand, as you literally cannot pull or nick them and they have no seams for, well, a seamless finish.

For day, we love a coloured cable knit for a retro, cosy and kooky kind of look. Cream is our go-to colour as it works wonders with florals, stripes and even a silky wrap dress like this one too!

TOP TEA DRESSING WITH TIGHTS

So, check out our new in dresses, forget the weather outside and turn to tights to give you back shopping and dressing options throughout the season.

ALL HAIL THE TREMENDOUS TIGHT!

Upcoming S/S Trends You Can Work Now

Spring/Summer may seem like a long way off but here are the key retro trends you should have on your radar!

Embellished Dresses

Sequins, sparkles, glitter you name it, it'll be popping up everywhere next season! So why not get ahead of the fashion game and grab a gorgeous embellished dress for  your next fancy occasion? If this all seems a bit OTT then pop on a  simple flapper headband or a beaded clutch bag to try out the odd bit of ornamentation.

Pastels

Whether it's wearing candy-coloured shades in your hair or selecting saccharine filters on your phone, pastels are still going strong! Don a sugary shade in a long-sleeved flapper  dress for a winter-appropriate stab at the style.

Fringed Dresses

Fringing is making a fabulous come back for all your Gatsby themed balls or nights out with the girls.  Nothing says sass quite like a fringed dress that sways when you sashay or strut! Love it!

Guide To Surviving The Party Season In Style

It might seem a little early but we think it helps to be a little prepared. Whatever your plans are this party season, we've got a few tips to help you steal the spotlight this year...

Plan A Killer Party Look

It's seriously time to throw out that tired LBD and plan a killer party outfit that'll knock the socks off everyone you know.  Preferably miles in advance so you're not struggling and rushing around that crucial week before the festivities begin...

Awesome Accessorising

Strapped for cash but want to make a statement? Easy, simply pop on a striking art deco accessory like this stylish sunburst necklace to add a dash of dazzle to your look.

Send Your Invites Out On Time

An essential part of planning any party is remembering to invite your guests, so our advice is don't leave it until the last minute. Being vintage enthusiasts we recommend going the whole hog and writing them out by hand.  A facebook group simply won't cut it in our book.

Create The Ultimate Playlist

Nothing gets you in the party mood, quite like a banging tune! Crank up the volume and put on all the cheesy classics to help pre-plan a showstopper.

Have A Backup

When the moment comes, there's nothing worse than realising you've got the dress code of the evening totally wrong - after all who the heck knows what smart casual REALLY means! So we'd be prepared and cover both options. Don't worry there's plenty of smart, yet sassy styles on sale at RMV to save the day.

How to re-create Emma Stone's Oscar winning look!

We adore this modern take on the 1920s trend by the fabulous Emma Stone and want to embody it immediately this Autumn! Getting dolled up full on Gatsby style is not for everyone so if you love the vintage look but are too afraid to go the whole hog we think that this is a sleek alternative.
Midi dresses are marvellous for this time of year too as they look uber glam and you can play the sophisticate  as well as remain cutely covered when the weather gets chilly. Emma has gone for a loose fitting black number with chic cut out detailing. Steal her style and bag our black crochet midi dress for a similar sassy vibe.  Next simply smooth your hair into gentle waves and don a retro ruby lip to channel your inner silver screen siren.

Festival Survival Guide

Feature: The Gypsy Shrine

If you're lucky enough to be trekking to a festival this Summer check out our essential survival tips to prevent you from making those common mistakes that make it more of an terrifying ordeal than an immense experience. Hey...we've been there, trust us on this one!

Rule 1: Be ruthless and pack light

In the comfort of your own bedroom, packing all those heels and accessories seems like a top priority but be warned.  When your trudging a tent and camping gear across multiples of muddy fields in order to get to your campsite you'll thank us for telling you to pack light. Do what we do and pack playsuits. They take next to no space in your rucksack and keep you looking suitability stylish for a festival. Problem solved.

Rule 2: Prepare for the worst.

Every year we all go in with the attitude that we are going to see weather that rivals the tropic but the sad reality is we'll probably end dancing in something that reassembles this:

Rule 3: Hand  sanitizer is your new best friend.

Seriously... do not go to a festival without some trusty anti-bacterial hand gel. You'll be using it by the bucket load as soon as you see the state of the toilet facilities. It's simply a MUST!

Rule 4: Stick together

It's pretty much a guarantee that at some point you'll end up completely losing your mates whilst your waiting in line for the bar. Keep calm and carry on you'll find them eventually but try and prevent this in the first place and choose a buddy you're going to stick to like glue.

Rule 5: Think of your health.

Bottles of water, factor 50+ sun cream and paracetamol will be crucial to your survival at a festival. Literally. You won't regret packing too much water or smothering yourself with sunscreen when you see the daunting queue for the water taps where you really feel the full impact of the Sun.  What you need to remember is that you'll be partying in a field all day long so make with the prep!

5 Thing We Love About Summer

1.  Ice cream- Even now we still get mega excited when we hear the ice cream
van music playing  knowing that a 99 is within close grasp! Who doesn't love a
Mr Whippy? For those who are fanatical about ice cream we've even found a
 frock to match!

Ice Cream Print Dress

2. The Beach-  Whether your scrolling on glorious sandy shores or even on
route to Blackpool, the beach never fails to cheer us up. Paddling in the sea or
strolling across the coast line, we just love taking some time out to be beside the sea!

3. BBQ & Garden Parties- At the merest hint of sunshine we're all out in
our gardens firing up the BBQ and constructing make shift cocktail cabinets in an
attempt to entertain our friends.  Well good on us! The sunny weather is definitely something to celebrate.

4. The Weather- Come rain and shine the blissful thing about Summer is that it changes so often it won't really matter. As long as there are bright skies above us
and lazy days that last that little bit longer we'll keep smiling.

5. Summer Wear- From big hats to retro shades we love the opportunity
to bring those pastels out of the wardrobe! Nothing screams Summer more than a
yellow or pale pink tea dress.

Rock n Roll Bride!

To say that we're obsessed with the 1950s would be an understatement...and we're even more head over heels for the current influx of rockabilly inspired weddings! We adore the wicked sense of style and badass, rebellious attitude it evokes as well as being the epitome of elegance. From dazzling pearls and crystals to huge fit and flare silhouettes we simply love the charm and nostalgia surrounding these shindigs. Why not go full on fifties for your event, hire a rock n roll band and centre it around a Grease themed carnival or simply hint at a vintage look and work the arched eyebrows and 50s flick?

Feature: The Frosted Petticoat

You could hire out a 50s diner to really get the party started as who wouldn't  love jiving and dancing the night away ? Or for any musicians amongst us make your guestbook your instrument of choice and play a tune for your guests! Perhaps tempt your guests with a Sailor Jerry  themed cake to really make a statement.

Feature: ELLE France

Get the rockabilly bridal look and style your hair in smooth curls and adorn yourself in shimmering crystals like these gorgeous Tassel Earrings . Pair with a ruby red pout and a dusting of blusher and your all set!

For your bridesmaids there's these stunning printed pastel prom dresses, which would look awesome teamed with tulle petticoats and killer heels!

  • Don't wear white! There's nothing worse than turning up to a party where someone has the same outfit as you...now imagine it's your wedding! Do yourself and the beautiful bride a favour and pick another colour. Go for one of these bejewelled beauties instead: http://www.rockmyvintage.co.uk/dresses/wedding-guest-dresses.htm

Do's

  • Do turn off your phone. Make the ceremony unforgettable for the right reason, not because your embarrassing little mermaid ringtone stole the show!
