CAN WE THINK ABOUT SPRING YET? THANKS TO TIGHTS WE CAN!

The short answer is yes, and we better start before this cold snap saps our sartorial super powers! It feels like a long Winter but we have decided that the New In Collection at Rock My Vintage can totally be rocking it now - giving two fingers to the frost in the process.

THANKS TO TIGHTS - the best invention known to man and toe, these darling deniers are your early spring saviour. They can take a skimpy 1920s dress out when it's below freezing or keep your tea dress toasty during the dreary days.

TWINKLING TWENTIES IN TIGHTS

Pick a lower denier for nights out to keep things sexy like with this black and gold flapper dress. Heist are our favourite brand, as you literally cannot pull or nick them and they have no seams for, well, a seamless finish.

For day, we love a coloured cable knit for a retro, cosy and kooky kind of look. Cream is our go-to colour as it works wonders with florals, stripes and even a silky wrap dress like this one too!

TOP TEA DRESSING WITH TIGHTS

So, check out our new in dresses, forget the weather outside and turn to tights to give you back shopping and dressing options throughout the season.

How to re-create Emma Stone's Oscar winning look!

We adore this modern take on the 1920s trend by the fabulous Emma Stone and want to embody it immediately this Autumn! Getting dolled up full on Gatsby style is not for everyone so if you love the vintage look but are too afraid to go the whole hog we think that this is a sleek alternative.
Midi dresses are marvellous for this time of year too as they look uber glam and you can play the sophisticate  as well as remain cutely covered when the weather gets chilly. Emma has gone for a loose fitting black number with chic cut out detailing. Steal her style and bag our black crochet midi dress for a similar sassy vibe.  Next simply smooth your hair into gentle waves and don a retro ruby lip to channel your inner silver screen siren.

Festival Survival Guide

Feature: The Gypsy Shrine

If you're lucky enough to be trekking to a festival this Summer check out our essential survival tips to prevent you from making those common mistakes that make it more of an terrifying ordeal than an immense experience. Hey...we've been there, trust us on this one!

Rule 1: Be ruthless and pack light

In the comfort of your own bedroom, packing all those heels and accessories seems like a top priority but be warned.  When your trudging a tent and camping gear across multiples of muddy fields in order to get to your campsite you'll thank us for telling you to pack light. Do what we do and pack playsuits. They take next to no space in your rucksack and keep you looking suitability stylish for a festival. Problem solved.

Rule 2: Prepare for the worst.

Every year we all go in with the attitude that we are going to see weather that rivals the tropic but the sad reality is we'll probably end dancing in something that reassembles this:

Rule 3: Hand  sanitizer is your new best friend.

Seriously... do not go to a festival without some trusty anti-bacterial hand gel. You'll be using it by the bucket load as soon as you see the state of the toilet facilities. It's simply a MUST!

Rule 4: Stick together

It's pretty much a guarantee that at some point you'll end up completely losing your mates whilst your waiting in line for the bar. Keep calm and carry on you'll find them eventually but try and prevent this in the first place and choose a buddy you're going to stick to like glue.

Rule 5: Think of your health.

Bottles of water, factor 50+ sun cream and paracetamol will be crucial to your survival at a festival. Literally. You won't regret packing too much water or smothering yourself with sunscreen when you see the daunting queue for the water taps where you really feel the full impact of the Sun.  What you need to remember is that you'll be partying in a field all day long so make with the prep!

5 Thing We Love About Summer

1.  Ice cream- Even now we still get mega excited when we hear the ice cream
van music playing  knowing that a 99 is within close grasp! Who doesn't love a
Mr Whippy? For those who are fanatical about ice cream we've even found a
 frock to match!

Ice Cream Print Dress

2. The Beach-  Whether your scrolling on glorious sandy shores or even on
route to Blackpool, the beach never fails to cheer us up. Paddling in the sea or
strolling across the coast line, we just love taking some time out to be beside the sea!

3. BBQ & Garden Parties- At the merest hint of sunshine we're all out in
our gardens firing up the BBQ and constructing make shift cocktail cabinets in an
attempt to entertain our friends.  Well good on us! The sunny weather is definitely something to celebrate.

4. The Weather- Come rain and shine the blissful thing about Summer is that it changes so often it won't really matter. As long as there are bright skies above us
and lazy days that last that little bit longer we'll keep smiling.

5. Summer Wear- From big hats to retro shades we love the opportunity
to bring those pastels out of the wardrobe! Nothing screams Summer more than a
yellow or pale pink tea dress.

Full On Flapper Vs A Glint of Gatsby

We just can't get enough of flapper fashion so thought we'd share with you some cool styling tips and ideas to really get into the swing of things when it comes to 1920s style! It's always fun to really go all out and mimic the authentic art deco look but you can create the same glamour and elegance by simply popping on a tassel necklace or coveting geometric shaped accessories.

Its fun to experiment and push the boundaries with your look but here we have simply pepped up a low key, stylish evening outfit with some glamorous accessories. The trick here is to choose one dramatic statement piece like the chevron clutch and choose items that compliment it. You can create a 20s look without going over the top and it looks great to mix  some Gatsby glamour with a modern contemporary outfit.

Here we have toyed with the idea of mixing old and new by recreating a flapper girl look with this stunning pink and white dress but have selected on trend colours and silhouettes. The bright fuchsia and orange hue bring this dress up to date, along with its figure hugging fit but the textures, crystals and embellishments reflect the Hollywood glamour of the 1920s.

Flattering Retro Shapes to Suit Your Body Type

It's always useful to get a helping hand when it comes to finding a dress that actually suits our body type... we need all the help we can get! That is why we have put together this handy little cheat sheet to help you suss out the best style for YOU.
We believe there is a vintage style or shape to suit everyone, from the sassy 60s
shift to the classic 1950s wiggle!

The Rectangle:

A rectangle body shape can be characterised by a straight up and down figure with little waist definition. With a slender figure like this, rectangles can get away with a sultry wiggle or wrap likes this Callie Bright Birdie Jersey Dress which will nip you in slightly at the waist and gives you a gentle curve.

The Pear:

A pear body type can be defined by wearing a larger size on your bottom half than on your top half. You are likely to have a smaller bust and fuller thighs or hips. The trick with finding something to suit a pear is to find something which accentuates your awesome waistline like a flared prom or A-line! Go for detail on top like this Embellished Prom Dress has.

The Apple:

A apple body type is characterised with a fuller figure around the middle, large bust and rounder shoulder line.  Opt for drop waists as they will narrow down at the hips and therefore make your torso longer and leaner like this Zelda Flapper Dress will. The good news is that most apple have great legs so show them off in either a stunning shift or A line mini dress!

The Hourglass:

Hour glass figures can be defined by a small waist, full bust and full thighs. Lucky you!  Go for something that really shows off your beautiful curves and make like Marilyn with a 1950s wiggle like French Connection Stable Dress or charming wrap skirt.

The Inverted Triangle:

An inverted triangle body can be described as having a bottom half smaller than your top half, where there is little definition between thighs and hips.  The trick here is to keep all features and details on the lower half of your body to balance out the top. Go for a pretty prom style like this Dreamy Deco Dress as you can afford to make the most of  your titchy bottom half!

Top tips To Remember On a First Date

1 . First impressions DO count!

Obviously, on a first date we all want to look our best and what you wear DOES matter because you only get one chance to make a impression. If you wear something too tight or itchy you'll spend the whole time in stilted silence trying very hard to breathe out or surreptitiously scratching your side.
Go for something suitably you, that you feel comfortable in and is sophisticated yet sexy. We tend to go for something that looks vintage to echo the notoriously sassy pin-up girl, hint at some good old fashioned romance and show off our slightly quirky character! If you too like the retro look go for this cute Black Floral Prom Dress, for a individual edge.

2. Dress for the occasion...

Feature: Playbuzz Cinderella

It stands to reason that if you are going to fabulously swanky restaurant or posh white tie event with your date, then don't turn up in jeans! Not only will you feel slightly silly, you'll regret passing up a opportunity to get dressed up and feel fantastic. Don't get me wrong denim is our faithful standby trend but it's amazing to rock something different and glamorous. However the same goes to be said for not turning up in a ball gown to the cinema...

3. Don't drink too much!

What is the point in wasting precious time doing your lippy, blow drying your hair and forcing your feet into some killer stilettos if you're going to get plastered and ruin the whole ensemble?  Trust me...panda eyes, smeared lip-gloss and having to be carried home never gets you a second date!

Clashing Prints

It's time to break the fashion rules, rewrite the rule book and forget everything you thought you knew about fashion no-goes! This spring is all about clashing crazy prints, busy patterns and clever colour blocking. What's great about this trend is that there is a endless interesting array of combinations and patterns to experiment with.

Oliva Palemo looks blooming marvellous in her gorgeous floral trousers and killer leopard print heels... brave and classy all rolled into one - she has totally nailed this look.  The trick with this style is to choose your main focal print and style the accessories around this. We have paired our fantastic Floral Noor Midi Dress (Only £52) with our Woven Plaited Belt for a relaxed, bohemian look that just exudes effortless style. We then contrasted this busy print with a leopard print shoe, as the earthy shades still tie the two styles together. The look is finished off with a neutral Nude Clutch Bag (Now £42) and Gold Triangle Earrings(£15).

Why not try playing pic n mix with prints? Experiment for less in our end of season sale at: http://www.rockmyvintage.co.uk/sale.htm

How To Wear - Power Prints

How To Wear - Power Prints

Here at rock my vintage we are all about funky retro prints and busy patterns
but understand that styling them and pairing them with other outfits can
sometimes become quite frankly downright exhausting!

Clashing colours and patterns can work well but if you want to keep it subtle and
elegant the key is to style them with muted or neutral accessories. Metallic's work well,
like our silver 'Vintage Shell Clutch' because not only does it still stand out against
the fabric it also compliments a busy pattern, rather than distracting your attention away from the print.

We have paired our 'Long Sleeved Floral Dress' with minimal dainty accessories,
and added a hint of colour for interest with our 'Green Art Deco Earrings' and
Steve Madden shoes. We've teamed this with our delicate 'Vintage Silver Ring'

Clueless - Top 5 Style Essentials

1. The striped sweater
Oh yes. This is what we're talking about, total Spice Girl sass. All those nostalgic feels! Taking classic 60s design and jazzing it up, 90s style.

2. The belly top
Yup. We loved these. What better way to show off your mid-riff than a Gwen Stefani style bralet top paired with a stretch choker (and you can totally grab yourself one on our website!)

3.The beret
The bad-hair-day saviour! Parisian cool teamed with plaid is just what we want from the 90s...we can remember having a few of these in all the colours...

4. The fluffy pen
Yes, we know it's stationery, but we think the fluffy pen is uber 90s! It totally captures the era of drink can pencil cases, glitter tubes and gel pens. We can accessorise at WH Smith can't we?!

5. The knee high socks
Another example of the naughty nineties stealing from the swinging sixties! We're a big fan of the dolly look, so go on Cher...you rock it!
